Central Amercia: Perfect Day at CocoCay – RCI Opens Private Island After 250-Million US Dollar Transformation
After a 250-million US dollar transformation the US cruise line Royal Caribbean International (RCI) recently opened their private island “CocoCay” in the Caribbean (cp. our theme special on cruise ship trends in EAP 1/2019). The highlight of the new guest offer on the Bahamas is the “Thrill Waterpark” designed by WhiteWater West featuring 13 exciting waterslides. The island is exclusive to Royal Caribbean guests and is now served by eleven ships of the global cruise line’s fleet from ports in Florida and the Northeast of the United States.
“Royal Caribbean is the proven leader when it comes to pushing the envelope in cruise ship design and the experiences offered at sea,” said Michael Bayley, President and CEO of RCI. “With Perfect Day at CocoCay, we are so proud to bring our 50-year legacy of innovation ashore to transform an incredible island that now completely revolutionizes private destinations in the vacation industry. It is exciting to see what we have dreamed up finally come to life; our guests truly are in for an experience unlike any other.” (eap)
