China: Merlin Reveals Plans for LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre Beijing

In line with its 22.7 million Euro (20 million GBP) investment plans for the further roll out of midway attractions in China (cf. EAP news from August 21st, 2017), Merlin Entertainments recently presented its plans to open a new LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre in Chinas capital city Beijing, which is scheduled to open its doors in 2019. Located at the Long Hu Beijing Chang Ying Tian Jie mall, the future offer, which is aimed at families with children aged three to ten years old, will comprise a range of Lego play areas, rides, party rooms and a 4D cinema, amongst others. Also, the venue will feature a “Miniland” area, which will be localized to the city presenting some popular landmarks as Lego models. When completed, Legoland Discovery Centre Beijing will complement Merlin’s visitor leisure experiences in the city, with Madame Tussauds Beijing already in operation and Little BIG City due to open later this year. The operator group also has a number of study agreements in place for LEGOLAND parks in China.

“We are delighted to be introducing our latest offer in Beijing which will mark our thirteenth attraction in China. The country is an exciting and important market for Merlin as we increase the geographical diversification of our attractions and continue the Midway roll out that is set to accelerate this year, particularly in Asia,” commented John Jakobsen, Chief New Openings Officer at Merlin Entertainments.
