China: New Details Revealed – Universal Beijing Resort to Feature Seven Theme Areas

After the groundbreaking of Universal Beijing Resort in 2015, the park now released new details about the resort‘s design and offers. The new resort, which will be operated by Beijing International Resort Co., Ltd., a joint venture of Beijing Shouhuan Cultural Tourism Investment Co., Ltd. and Comcast NBCUniversal, will develop seven theme areas inside its theme park. “Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness“, “Transformers: Metrobase“, “Minion Land“, “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter“, “Jurassic World Isla Nublar“, “Hollywood Boulevard“ and “WaterWorld“ will provide visitors with numerous attractions, shows, shops and restaurants. Tom Mehrmann, President and General Manager of Universal Beijing Resort, said: “We will immerse our guests in incredible experiences that bring their favorite stories and characters to life in entirely new ways. Our theme park will showcase the best Universal rides, as well as all-new, unique experiences specially created to reflect China’s rich cultural heritage. […]“ To improve the leisure experience even more the resort, which is expected to open in 2021, will also feature the “Universal CityWalk Beijing“, which will include several dining and entertainment concepts with multiple renowned restaurants, bars, movie theaters and shopping destinations.

Besides the leisure attractions, two luxurious hotels will be built for accommodation. The Universal Studios Grand Hotel (800 rooms) and the NUO Resort Hotel – Universal Beijing Resort (400 rooms) will be operated by the Key International Hotels Management Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Beijing Tourism Group and Kempinski Hotels. The resort project, which was initially announced in 2014, will occupy an about 400 hectares large site, located in the center of Tongzhou District, a so-called Cultural Tourism Zone in Beijing. Public transportation will be provided by a new subway station connected to two metro lines. In addition to the subway, the disassembling of the main street systems to the park is also part of the construction plan.

To create a new next level experience, Universal Beijing Resort has joint forces with Chinese technology company Alibaba. The concept is about including the “Alibaba Business Operating System“ to digitize the park‘s operations and management. Processes like planning the trip, park and hotel bookings, ticketing, storage lockers, food and beverage recommendations, shop and restaurant payments, parking spots and many more will be operated by the new system.
