China: Shanghai Disneyland Announces First Park Expansion since Opening
Shanghai Disneyland – part of the Shanghai Disney Resort, which was opened in summer of 2016 (cf. EAP, 5/16) – recently announced plans for the first park expansion since its opening: Next year will see the launch of “Disney Toy Story Land”, a new theme area based on Disney·Pixar’s popular “Toy Story” motion picture series. Its opening is scheduled for April 26th, 2018. As the park’s seventh theme area, Disney Toy Story Land will feature three new attractions and a uniquely themed character greeting area. Also, Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando/FL will open a “Toy Story Land” next summer (cf. EAP news from August 18th, 2015).
The "Slinky Dog Spin" ride puts guests right into the skin of a dog ("Slinky Dog") chasing its own tail running around a large food bowl full of toy bones. Those who prefer to go high up will have fun on the "Rex's Racer" U-shaped track, on which passengers rush up and down at increasing speed. “Woody's Round-Up” offers a kind of "horse racing" experience, where visitors take seat in carts. Furthermore, the “Meeting Post" photo point in Wild West design serves as a meeting place for a Meet & Greet with popular Toy Story characters. A merchandising shop ("Al's Toy Barn") and the Toy Box Café themed restaurant will complement the offer. (eap)
