China: Shanghai Disneyland to Reopen for Visitors on 11th May

Following the outbreak of the global COVID-19 pandemic in China at the end of last year and the subsequent restrictions on public life since January, some tourist and leisure attractions have recently resumed operations in compliance with China’s social distancing and hygiene measures.

Now it was announced, that also the Shanghai Disneyland will be reopen to visitors as of 11th May. Guests will need to make reservations online, also there will be “Health QR” and temperature checks before entering the park. Furthermore, the local government has indicated that Shanghai Disneyland is to run at 30 percent of the maximum capacity. Normally, the park welcomes around 80,000 guests a day – a number that will now be reduced to some 24,000 people in order to avoid crowds in- and outside of the park.

Similar Corona protection measures are also planned by the operators of leisure attractions in other (non-Asian) countries. In Germany, the German Association of Amusement Parks & Attractions (VDFU) is working on a catalogue of measures together with its members (cf. EAP News of 22 Apr 2020). Today, there will be a conference of the federal states’ ministers with the Chancellor to decide on possible loosenings of the current restrictions. (eap)
