Denmark: Generational Change at KIRKBI A/S - Chairman of the Board of Directors Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen to Step Back in 2023
The Danish investment company KIRKBI A/S, the private holding company of the Kirk Kristiansen family, owns 75 percent of the LEGO Group. Yesterday, the family business announced the next step in the gradual generational change in its company to take place in 2023, this time passing the gavel from the family’s third to the fourth generation. Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen will step down as Chairman of the Board of Directors and be succeeded by Thomas Kirk Kristiansen.
“For several years, my family and I have prepared thoroughly for the future. KIRKBI A/S has grown significantly and manages many exciting activities in addition to the LEGO® ownership. The LEGO Group is so much more than a company to us. We have a clear purpose, which is about the importance of play to children’s development, learning and well-being. The passion for play and learning has always been the driving force in our family, and it is important for us to sustain this legacy for future generations,” says Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen.
Thomas Kirk Kristiansen is the most active fourth generation owner on the family’s behalf and has been Chairman of LEGO A/S since 2020 and the LEGO Foundation since 2016. Since 2007 he has been a member of the Board of Directors of KIRKBI A/S. (eap)
