Efteling Celebrates Reopening of Anton Pieck Plein

On the occasion of the birthday of park co-founder Anton Pieck (1895-1987), Efteling inaugurated the redesigned “Anton Pieck Plein” this past Wednesday, which is intended to exude an atmosphere of times gone by. Among other things, park visitors can attend a performance in the renovated puppet theatre from 1954 or ride the chain flyer with musical monkey animal figures, which has been restored according to an earlier design by Pieck.

In addition, the Dutch theme park presents a special exhibition in its museum with selected artistic works by the park co-founder. In cooperation with the Anton Pieck Museum in Hattem, 26 pieces of art ranging from etchings and woodcuts to ink drawings can currently be marveled at. With his creative ideas and drawings, Pieck laid the foundation for the development of the various Efteling theme worlds that have helped the former fairytale park – which today is the largest theme park in the Netherlands in terms of visitor numbers – to constantly grow to the present day. The experience is accompanied by the cheerful sounds of barrel organ music. (eap)
