England: Picsolve Develops Photo Experience for Alton Towers Resort’s New VR-Attraction

The image capture company Picsolve has partnered with Alton Towers Resort to develop a special photo experience for the waiting area of the park’s new VR-attraction “Galactica”, so that visitors dip in the virtual space before starting the ride. As the VR-rollercoaster presents a challenge to traditional on-ride photography because the guest’s face is obstructed by the headset, they can use the new photo capture point in the queuing line. Up to six persons can take a “space selfie” by placing their head inside a round window aperture. Six hidden DSLR cameras capture their headshot, which then appears under a space helmet to coincide with the futuristic theme of “Galactica”. Accordingly, the photo capture point is presented to guests as a “pre-flight check-in”. “Emerging technologies, such as virtual reality at the Alton Towers Resort, are creating exciting opportunities for photography to provide a fully immersive experience from the moment guests step into the queue. Picsolve is committed to staying at the forefront of technology and finding innovative ways to use image capture to enhance the guests’ experience,” commented Laura Lunn, Global Head of Marketing at Picsolve. To redeem the personal photo after the ride, guests are given a printed ticket with an individual barcode. Futhermore, the photo is available as a print or digital copy at the dedicated retail store. Owners of the “DigiPass” can collect their photo by downloading it to a reduced price – “DigiPass” is the park’s “all inclusive” offer in form of a digital ticket that provides guests with an unlimited access to all Alton Towers Resort’s rides.
