England: Royal Liver Building Receives Visitor Attraction

The Royal Liver Building, former seat of the Royal Liver Friendly Society, is one of the most popular landmarks of Liverpool. In October 2016, the building was sold to Luxembourg-based investment group Corestate Capital and Iranian businessman Ardavan Farhad Moshiri (majority owner of Liverpool’s soccer club Everton F.C.).

Next year, the Royal Liver Building will be made accessible for the public with the opening of a new visitor attraction, comprising an information centre in which the historic building will be presented to guests and a projection mapping show. Unlike “classic” projection mapping implementations, the installation at the Royal Liver Building will immerse visitors directly into the action by presenting the city’s history from the beginning of the industrial age until to date in 270-degree images. In addition, guests will be able to activate media sequences by using an Augmented Reality app, triggered from artefacts and merchandise. Both the projection mapping show and the app will be supplied by British AV and media specialist Holovis. The projection mapping installation concludes the tour before guests can enjoy a panoramic view of the city and its surroundings from a viewing platform.

The new visitor attraction is developed by Corestate in cooperation with Heritage Great Britain operating group and National Building Consultancy. “Heritage Great Britain is extremely proud to be bringing a world-class visitor attraction to such an iconic landmark building. It’s the first time in a number of generations that the world-famous building will be accessible to tourists and residents, giving behind the scenes access and stunning 360-degree views across the city and region, together with cutting edge technology to educate and entertain visitors,” commented Allan Leech, CEO of Heritage Great Britain.

In addition to the visitor attraction, refurbishment plans for the Royal Liver Building include new offices, a restaurant, a gym and cycle facilities. (eap)
