France: Futuroscope Reveals 300-Million-Euro Development Plan

„Mission Bermudes“ ist eine der geplanten neuen Attraktionen für das Futuroscope.

Over the next ten years, a total of 300 million euros is to be invested in the development of the French theme park Futuroscope located in Poitiers. This is the aim of the extensive investment plan that was officially signed yesterday, October 12, by those responsible for the park and representatives from the worlds of politics and finance as part of a new shareholder agreement. Two thirds of the sum are to be invested by 2025. The planned investment measures are intended to help expand the park’s range of offerings and services and transform it into a resort covering more than 22 hectares, thereby increasing the attractiveness of the location and position it as a short break destination.

Over the next five years, three new major attractions are to be launched (with a budget of 20 millions euros each): “Chasseurs de Tornades”, an immersive adventure combining real scenery, live show elements and a dynamic rotating platform with 120 seats (2022), “Mission Bermudes”, an aquatic theme course with indoor and outdoor stretches (2024) as well as a third attraction scheduled for a 2026 opening. In addition to this, a hotel complex with two themed hotels is to be created in close proximity to the park. Spring 2022 will see the opening of a 76-room hotel with a space theming and a looping restaurant and in 2023 the second accommodation offer featuring 120 ecological family lodges with a terrace will be opened. Moreover, 2024 will see the opening of an indoor water park named “Aquascope”, which is intended to extend the guests’ length of stay.

With all these investments, the Futuroscope hopes to reach an annual visitor number of 2.5 million guests, corresponding to an increase of 650,000 visitors compared to today, as well as an increase of 75 percent in turnover. Furthermore, thanks to the expansion 750 direct and indirect jobs will be created. (eap)
