France: Positive Half-Year Results for Compagnie des Alpes

For the first half of the 2021/2022 fiscal year (October 1 to March 31), French operator group Compagnie des Alpes (CdA) reported sales of 541.2 million euros, an increase of 16.2 percent compared to the first half of the 2018/2019 fiscal year, the last full financial year before the pandemic started. The strong results are attributed to the group’s two main business areas, leisure parks and ski resorts. While the results of the leisure parks division were already at record levels in the first quarter of FY 2021/22 (cf. Park Report, EAP 2/2022), those of the ski resorts outperformed during the second quarter, which typically accounts for three quarters of the annual sales of this division.

Looking at the results for the leisure parks division in detail, an increase in sales of 29.3 percent to 120.4 million euros can be seen here compared to the same period in 2018/19. In terms of attendance, the group recorded an increase of ten percent in its leisure parks in the first half of fiscal year 2021/22 compared to the same period in FY 2018/19. Average per capita visitor spending increased by 19 percent. As far as the rest of the current season is concerned, the group is again optimistic, particularly in view of the planned major novelties at Parc Astérix (“Tonnerre 2 Zeus”), Futuroscope (“Chasseurs de Tornades”), Bellewaerde (new show) and Familypark (“Biberburg”, new flume ride). Find a detailed article about the renewed wooden roller coaster at Parc Astérix in our upcoming May/June issue.

Currently, CdA operates a total of 220 attractions across twelve parks, 80 restaurants and cafés, 74 shops, five themed hotels, and employs nearly 5,000 people during peak season. (eap)
