(eap) On Saturday, Barcelona’s Tibidabo amusement park (located on the city’s mountain of the same name) celebrated the opening of its new “Merlí” drop tower: a freefall tower from Austrian manufacturer Funtime. The attraction itself is over 50 metres high, installed in the park at a height of around 500 metres above sea level – so in addition to the thrill of the free fall, before “plummeting”, passengers can also enjoy a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view of the Catalan metropolis. With this novelty, the city’s iconic and long-standing leisure destination aims to exceed an annual visitor mark of 700,000 guests – by the middle of this month, around 300,000 guests had already been recorded this season.

In addition to its new thrill attraction, Tibidabo is also offering new show formats for families this season, such as the puppet show “Marionetes amb Samfaina”. New films will be presented in the “Dididado” 4D cinema, and in the coming month of August a laser show will entertain the public in the amusement park high above the rooftops of Barcelona, which can be reached by the historic “Cuca de Llum” (“Firefly”) funicular railway from Plaça Doctor Andreu, which was extensively modernised by Leitner Ropeways a few years ago. ■
