Garden Grove, Orange County/USA: Largest Water Park Resort Hotel West of Mississippi to Be Built
According to ocregister.com, city council members of Garden Grove voted in favour of the construction of a hotel with a three-acre adjacent waterpark starting in 2012. With this decision, Garden Grove overruled residents’ objections. Developer McWhinney Enterprises plans on building the ten-storey hotel with 600 rooms and about 15,000 square feet of meeting space. The facility will be directly connected to an indoor or outdoor waterpark. The entire project spans an investment total of roughly 300 million US dollars. It will be the largest waterpark resort hotel west of the Mississippi, 1.6 kilometres away from Disneyland in California. For City Manager Matt Fertal, the facility is distinguished by its combination of a hotel and resort experience. “It complements Disneyland and other resorts in the area,” Fertal said. The project is expected to generate 5.3 million US dollars in tax revenue per year, as well as create 600 temporary and permanent jobs. However, residents of Travel Country RV Park will have to leave their homes for the hotel construction. The city has offered 5,000 US dollars to residents for having to relocate. (eap)
