Germany: Free WLAN at ZOOM Erlebniswelt

As one of the first German zoos Gelsenkirchen’s ZOOM Erlebniswelt recently introduced free WLAN for its visitors, covering the whole area. The realization of the “ZOOM WLAN” project started in January in cooperation with HUAWEI, IT and telecommunications solutions provider. Ulrich Köllmann, CEO of Stadtwerke Gelsenkirchen, and Hans Hallitzky, Deputy Sales Director Germany of HUAWEI Enterprise Business Western Europe, attended the opening ceremony when the WLAN was finally put into operation. A total of 3,500 meters of civil engineering measures, around 9,400 meters of fiber optic cable and 112 antennas were necessary to implement the project. “Supporting Stadtwerke Gelsenkirchen realizing this forward-looking and customer-oriented project was a pleasure for us”, Hans Hallitzky says. In order to gain internet access the visitor is requested to send a free SMS. In response he will receive another SMS with a password valid for 24 hours. A further option is to generate a permanent access by enrolling at “ZOOM Community”. (eap)
