Germany: Hagenbeck Zoo Appoints Dr. Guido Westhoff New Zoo Director

Dr. Guido Westhoff, who has been serving as director of the tropical aquarium at Hamburg’s Hagenbeck Zoo since 2009, was recently appointed new director of the zoo. Westhoff, who graduated in Biology with a focus on Zoology with a professor’s degree, filled a two-year-vacant position at the head of Tierpark Hagenbeck. During the past twelve years and the zoological facility he initiated large-scale renovation projects such as the “Sumatra Stream Course“, which was finished in August 2019 (cf. EAP news of 21 Aug 2019).

“Now, as zoological director, I have the opportunity to create the zoological future of the complete facility including innovative approaches of animal keeping together with an experienced team and with the same passion for nature and conservation such as the long-year tradition of Hagebeck,“ comments Dr. Westhoff. Dr. Dirk Albrecht, General Manager of Tierpark Hagenbeck, adds: “I am very pleased that this challenging position has been filled with such a qualified and globally oriented candidate.“ (eap)
