Germany: Karls Erlebnis-Dorf Arouses Curiosity for Opening of Polarium at Zoo Rostock
Since December 2017, visitors to Karls Erlebnis-Dorf in Rövershagen, Germany, have been able to admire the 15th ice world “Die geheimnisvolle Stadt – 800 Jahre Rostock” (Engl.: “The mysterious town – 800 years of Rostock”) on the occasion of the city´s 800th anniversary. Covering some 2,000 square meters the exhibition now features 19 stations with ice sculptures created by 22 artists to illustrate the history of Rostock.
Since the beginning of July, the Russian artist Sergey Tselebrovskiy has been working on the 19th station of the exhibition, which is dedicated to Zoo Rostock and the upcoming opening of “Polarium” (cf. EAP news from June 22nd, 2016). The Polarium, which is set to be opened in September, is going to be the new home for penguins and polar bears at the zoo and a new modern center for education and adventure. An ice-polar bear with a height of 2.5 meters is to be found in the ice exhibition to arouse the visitors´ curiosity for the Polarium. Some ice-penguins are located next to the polar bear sculpture, just as they will be seen in the Polarium. For the whole “Polarium”-project, a total of 1,430 kilogram of ice were utilized.
The exhibition at Karls Erlebnis-Dorf, which has seen over 120.000 visitors so far, will remain open until the end of October. (eap)
