Following the success of already 14 ice worlds hosted at Germany’s Karls Erlebnis-Dorf Rövershagen (c.f. EAP 1/14), visitors to Karls Erlebnis-Dorf Elstal, which is located close to the city Berlin, can discover the second ice world under the theme “Heroes of Childhood”, which opened in December 2016. In a 2,000 square meter large ice arena, guests immerse in a frozen world with 75 sculptures made of ice and snow, including teddies, marbles and the beloved German “Sandman” kids’ television star.

Under the artistic direction of Jana Fuhrmann, 22 international artists from twelve countries created the astonishing ice world and generated a new record in visitor numbers of 111,111 guests last week. In total, 300,000 kilogram ice and 400,000 kilogram snow were needed for the “construction works”. Besides the figures, the ice world also features active entertainment: The “Marble Run” invites children to speedy sliding fun; afterwards, they can get lost in the ice maze. Furthermore, there is a large marionette made of ice, which – according to the park – is the first moveable ice sculpture in the world. An ice bar and an ice rink complete the overall offer for visitors, which can be experienced until October 29th this year. (eap)
