Germany: LEGOLAND Germany Celebrates Successful Parade Premiere
Last weekend, the world‘s first parade in a LEGOLAND location celebrated its premiere at LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort. Seven LEGO-themed floats – including the colorful LEGOLAND Germany entrance, the bright red fire truck, a pirate ship, the majestic castle including a dragon‘s head, a submarine, a DUPLO train and park dragon Olli‘s luxury limousine –, mostly made of mineral-based, resource-saving plastic, wood and aluminum, now parades regularly (on weekends, holidays and during vacation times) along the 500-meter-long parade route, enthusing visitors. LEGO heroes, dancers and performers complement the parade, for which a custom soundtrack has been produced.
“The unique thing about our LEGOLAND parade is that anyone could recreate it at home. Commercially available LEGO bricks were scaled up for our 1:25 scale floats. Only for the DUPLO train we used the scale of 1:16. If you were to put the original LEGO bricks together, you would get our parade in miniature,“ explains LEGOLAND‘s Event and Entertainment Director Martin Lubitzsch.
“We have been awarded the huge honor and trust of our parent company Merlin Entertainments to be the first LEGOLAND in the world to develop a parade. In doing so, we worked out everything ourselves from scratch; there were no specifications or empirical values except for the scale. The fact that our concept worked out so well was an extraordinary team effort of which I am very proud,“ sums up LEGOLAND‘s Managing Director Manuela Stone and adds: “The way the children‘s eyes sparkled along the way and the adults were also laughing along, we know that the parade hit a nerve with our LEGOLAND audience.
