Germany: Miniatur Wunderland Announces What’s to Come in 2020

In August 2019, the Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg, Germany already gave an outlook to comprehensive expansion plans for the model building experience (cf. EAP 5/2019). The Braun-brothers Gerrit and Frederik, the founders oft he miniature world, signed a lease agreement for a building opposite to the current exhibition area. The two areas will be connected by a bridge, which will be installed in June. “We don’t know yet when we can open the bridge to the public, because some construction work will then still have tob e carried out“ they say. The new exhibition area will be home to the new “South America“ miniature world to open in 2021, followed by“Central America and the Caribbean“ (2023) and “Asia“ (2026).

Miniatur Wunderland is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2020, so there are several novelties to open already this year. The special exhibition “Sauwohl“ (Eng.: “the pigs‘ well-being“) deals with te controversial topic of industrial livestock farming. As of April, visitors will be able to discover the new "Fun Fair“ miniature model in the “Central Germany“ area, which will replace the old carnival replica (cf. EAP news of 8 May 2019). Since this new part doubles the previous space, the whole area will be enlarged. Hamburg’s annual harbour birthday in May will bring several members of the IG Mikromodellbau miniature model building club to town, who will present their miniature boat model in the “North and Baltic Sea“ miniature world in the “Skandinavian“ area. The new “Monaco and Provaence“ area will be launched in December. Highlight of this new theme world will be a miniature Formula 1 track. (eap)
