Germany: Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg Celebrates 15 Millionth Guest
Hamburg’s Miniatur Wunderland – one of the most popular tourist attractions in Germany – has steadily increased its attendance figures since its opening some 15 years ago. Last Friday, the founders Gerrit and Frederik Braun welcomed their 15 millionth visitor. Oliver Zernikow, the anniversary guest, received a colorful “confetti shower” and a certificate of ownership for a little house in the new Venice section, which is going to open by the end of next year. The rest of the Italian theme area had already been completed this past autumn (c.f. EAP news from October 6th, 2016).
In addition to this celebration, Miniatur Wunderland organized the first “Mobalympics” on December 2nd – the international day of the model railway – to enthuse children by playful competitions for the model railway again. The overall model railway exhibition is built on 1,500 square meters and features around 1,000 trains, 260,000 figures and 130,000 trees in a total of nine sections. (eap)
