Germany: Mourning for Karl Heinrich Pott (1930-2021)
On 29 July 2021, Karl Heinrich Pott, the founder of Potts Park in Minden, passed away at the age of 90. Together with his wife Lotte († 2015), Karl Heinrich Pott founded a small amusement park in Minden, North Rhine-Westphalia, in the summer of 1969, whose declared aim was to offer families an interesting range of leisure activities. Since then, the history of Potts Park has been that of a medium-sized, family-owned business that has developed into a distinctly versatile family-friendly leisure facility that has long since been able to appeal to guests from a wider area than its own region – since 2008 under the leadership of Henrik Pott, son of the founder.
The businessman and lawyer Karl Heinrich Pott was not only committed to his own park for decades, but was also always actively involved in the theme park industry. From 1998 to 2001, he was President of the German Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (VDFU). During this time, he campaigned together with his fellow entrepreneurs for the interests of amusement parks in Germany and fought, among other things, for the recognition of amusement companies as an economic factor and for their equal tax treatment. Together with his family, the industry mourns the loss of a dedicated person who also always stood up and felt responsible for the interests of this industry. (eap)
