Germany: New Primate Species at Serengeti Park Hodenhagen

Located in the German town of Hodenhagen, the zoo and leisure park Serengeti Park, which recently inaugurated new adventure lodges for overnight guests (c.f. EAP news from August 11th, 2016), has enlarged its animal population by adding three white-faced sakis – a new primate species to the zoological part of the park.

The so-called “bachelor group”, including Alvin (born in 2008) and his two sons Simon (2014) and Theodor (2015), has lived in Denmark’s Jesperhus Blomsterpark and settled over to a new enclosure at Serengeti Park, which is accessible for visitors. “[…] White-faced sakis have an open and relaxed character, so it is exciting for visitors to observe them in the walk-through enclosure,” explained Dr. Fabrizio Sepe, Co-Owner and CEO of Serengeti Park.

Recognized as a zoo, the park participates in the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP), responsible for breed and conservation of endangered species in zoos. (eap)
