Germany: Osnabrück Zoo’s Tetra-Aquarium Modernized
For many years now, the Lower-Saxony-based company Tetra, world market leader in aquaristics, has been sponsor and namesake of the “Tetra-Aquarium” at Osnabrück Zoo. The zoo used the time of the lockdown to modernize its aquarium, both in the area of knowledge transfer and in the technical area “behind the scenes”. Thanks to a donation by the aquaristics specialist, 19 new information tablets for visitors were installed at the tanks to digitalize the signage of them. “The tablets enable us to provide our visitors with comprehensible and easily accessible information on all species,” says Stefan Bramkamp, animal keeper and precinct manager at Osnabrück Zoo. In addition, the visitor area in front of the tanks in the freshwater landscape was decorated with artificial roots. The saltwater area of the aquarium was already redesigned in 2019 in the style of a sunken shipwreck. “This will allow us to give our visitors a stronger sense of the topographic regions in which the various fish are found,” Bramkamp said.
Furthermore, further financial aid from Tetra will also make it possible soon to install new technology in the area of the filter systems, lighting and pumps that are not visible to visitors. (eap)
