Germany: Phantasialand Expansion – 2015 Operational Concept Updated

Germany’s Phantasialand in Brühl has been negotiating with local authorities about expansion areas for years. Yesterday the park presented a new plan for a possible expansion until 2015. The new plan envisages new investments and restructurings on a 19-hectare large area. The restriction to a smaller area – the park had originally aimed for a 30 hectare large area – is to be offset by a greater diversity of the new entertainment offers. “The direct connection of the new expansion area to the existing park premises is what is crucial to optimally link the existing with the new offers and to offer them as a whole,” states the park. The inevitable consolidation of the offer calls for a restriction to the main features of the previous operational concept of 2005 – including hotels, an aqua park and theme park attractions. Furthermore, the multi-functional event hall with a direct parking platform remains an important part of the updated operational concept in order to cater for day visitors and to further expand the event business. The corporate goal of the park is and remains the positioning of Phantasialand as a competitive short break destination. (eap)
