Germany: SURFTOWN MUC Celebrates Official Groundbreaking
Last week, the construction of the new surf pool facility SURFTOWN® MUC started in Hallbergmoos, about 25 kilometers north of Munich, with the official ground-breaking ceremony. Since its announcement, the project has been continuously pushed forward by the developers in order to find solutions for structural and technical requirements for the realization of the first “Endless Surf” facility (by WhiteWater West) in Europe in close cooperation with the responsible authorities. Representatives from politics, business and the surfing communities were present at the groundbreaking ceremony last Thursday. On this occasion, concrete visualizations of the project, designed by Maisch Wolf Architekten from Munich, were also presented for the first time. The surf park, located near Munich Airport and said to be the largest surf pool in Europe when finished, is scheduled to start its test operations in late 2023, with the aim of officially opening in spring 2024.
“We are thrilled and proud to get closer each day to our dream of surfing near Munich,” says Chris Boehm-Tettelbach, CEO of SURFTOWN® MUC. “My sincere thanks go to the municipality of Hallbergmoos, which has accepted the challenges of our forward-thinking project with remarkable pioneering spirit.“ Marking a major milestone for the city, Josef Niedermair, Mayor of Hallbergmoos, says, “For the municipality, SURFTOWN® MUC is a historic opportunity that everyone can benefit from. On a political level, we have done our best to ensure that this extraordinary project can be realized in our town. Once again we are proving that Hallbergmoos is capable of courageous and forward-thinking steps.“
Adjacent to SURFTOWN® MUC, the Rock Capital Group, an asset management company, is developing a lifestyle quarter under the name HYBRID ONE, which will be unique in Europe and include a boulevard, showrooms, gastronomy, retail as well as ultra-modern and flexible office and laboratory space. The aim is to redefine the concept of leisure and work here on an area of 30,000 square meters. Completion of this part of the development is scheduled for 2025. (eap)
