Germany: Sauna Paradise at Therme Erding Celebrates 5th Anniversary
Europe’s largest thermal spa and waterpark Therme Erding expanded its sauna paradise by tripling the sauna area in 2007. This area has a daily capacity of 1,562 guests. Now, after five years of operation, Jörg Wund, CEO Therme Erding and Uwe Barth, authorized officer Therme Erding, took stock. Constantly increasing visitor figures and a permanent reaching of the capacity limit were among the reasons for the expansion. Furthermore, the operators wanted to offer their guests a bigger variety of saunas. Though the operation of such a big facility causes high costs in terms of electricity, gas and water, the operators wanted to cater to new target groups to generate additional income by creating a larger sauna area. Besides a wide range of offers that combine relaxation and adventure, the nearly 300 employees are decisively contributing to the success of the waterpark according to Wund. The construction of a 4-star-plus wellness & spa hotel is still one of the expansion projects of Therme Erding (cf. EAP 1/2012, NewSplash). (eap)
