Germany: TimeRide Cologne Celebrates 5th Anniversary with New VR Experience "Germany Time Travel" & Adds TimeRide GO! in Berlin
Five years ago, the first TimeRide location opened in Cologne with a virtual journey to the imperial era. To mark the anniversary, TimeRide is offering “Deutschland-Zeitreise” (English: “Germany Time Travel”) for a short time during the fall vacations (Oct. 1-16) in addition to the regular tour to 1926 Cologne and the VR city tour TimeRide GO! The VR experience takes visitors on a virtual journey using mobile VR goggles to milestones in German history from Roman Cologne to the fall of the Berlin Wall. Among the 14 scenes of the approximately ten-minute experience with 360-degree moving image sceneries are the departure of Emperor Barbarossa for the Crusade in Regensburg, knight tournaments in Munich, the lively Cologne of the 1920s, but also the dramatic destruction of the cathedral city in World War II... “With the ‘Germany Time Travel’ we want to inspire especially children and young people for history,” explains Jonas Rothe, founder and CEO of TimeRide GmbH. “The immediate immersion in historical video sequences opens up a completely new experience of history.” After the two-week pop-up concept in Cologne, Germany Time Travel will be permanently available to experience at the TimeRide location in Berlin.
In the future, the offer in Berlin will not only be supplemented by the Germany Time Travel, but has also been offering TimeRide GO! since the beginning of October. This experience is already offered at the locations in Cologne, Dresden and Munich. During the 90-minute virtual reality-supported city tour, guests immerse themselves in Berlin’s 20th century urban history. The guided tours – offered in both German and English – take visitors to key historical sites in the capital and, through elaborately designed 360-degree reconstructions based on historical sources, paintings, photographs and film footage, provide impressive past-present comparisons and new perspectives on the city’s development.
