Germany: monte mare Rengsdorf Bathing Complex to Close Down
Established in 1974 by the municipality of Rengsdorf, the formerly named Garden Wave Pool (G.: Garten-Wellenbad) bathing complex had been transferred to Wellenbad GmbH, before it was taken over by monte mare Bädergesellschaft mbH in 1991, which since then has been acting as tenant and operator of the recreational bath, including sauna facilities, a restaurant and an adjacent administration and office building, with a contract set for 25 years. To be able to continue operating the bathing complex at an economically successful level, monte mare Rengsdorf requires comprehensive renovation measurements and a fresh concept for its future competitiveness. Thus, the monte mare operating group, which currently manages a total of twelve bathing complexes located in Germany, developed a new concept including an artificial lake with residential areas for possible investors and presented the concept to the municipal administration of Rengsdorf.
However, the proposal of monte mare group had recently been rejected by the municipal council of Rengsdorf, as the concept would require a change of the development plan. This lead to the decision of monte mare to close down monte mare Rengsdorf effective from October 15th, 2017.
At its Andernach site, monte mare is currently building its first hotel for short vacationers, which is scheduled to open in the first half of 2018 (cf. EAP, 5/17). (eap)
