Germany/France: Europa-Park Plans Cross-Border Cable Car Project
Germany’s Europa-Park attracts over five million visitors yearly (cf. our park report in EAP, 2/18), more than one million guests come from neighboring France. In order to sustainably relieve the existing infrastructure in the region, owner family Mack, on the initiative of Michael Mack, has developed plans for a cross-border cable car system to connect Europa-Park directly with the French Alsace region via the Rhine river.
With the realization of this project, new jobs will be created and the park will be able to realize accommodation offers on French ground in addition to the existing facilities in Rust/Germany. An expansion of the family business into the Alsace region would also be conceivable. For this joint project, the Mack family receives full support from French President Emmanuel Macron. Yesterday evening, Macron and Michael Mack made their vision public for an improved connection to the nearby Alsace region through a cable car project.
Details of this infrastructure project are currently being agreed on with the authorities in Germany and France. Further steps for the realization of the cable car system are to be elaborated and authorized within the framework of the approval procedure. (eap)
