Green Light for Construction of New Liseberg Waterpark “Oceana”

Positive news from Gothenburg: Following the construction start of Liseberg’s new “Grand Curiosa” hotel in autumn last year (cf. EAP news of 25 Sept 2019), construction can now also begin of the planned indoor water park as part of the expansion of the Swedish amusement park – as was announced by the company today. According to this, an agreement has now been signed between the Liseberg Board and building contractor NCC. Dubbed Oceana, the water park will be completed in just over three years.

“This is exactly what the tourist destination of Gothenburg needs to get the tourism industry back on track after the Corona crisis. The water park will be able to accommodate half a million guests per year and generate 185,000 additional overnight stays in the city. It will breathe new life into the crisis-hit industry,” says Christer Holmgren, Chairman of the Liseberg Board.

With a total of 14 attractions and slides on almost 6,000 square meters of indoor and 4,000 square meters of outdoor swimming area and a capacity of 1,750 guests, Oceana will be one of the largest water parks in Northern Europe. The costs for the construction of the water park are estimated at 1,060 million Swedish kroner (around 104 million euro). (eap)
