Hong Kong: Ocean Park Breaks Ground for „Water World“ Project
In summer last year, Ocean Park Hong Kong announced its plans for the opening of a year-round, all-weather water park (cf. EAP News from July 14, 2014). On November 5, 2015 the theme park held the official ground breaking ceremony for the “Water World” project. Covering an area of more than 693,000 square feet (64.382 square meters), the facility will feature a total of 27 indoor and outdoor attractions, such as a surf rider, where guests can ride waves on a surfboard, two large wave pools, a crazy river, a lazy river and two attractions for children. Furthermore, Water World will offer its guests dining, shopping and entertainment possibilities.
The development of the water park is an integral part of Ocean Park’s ongoing transformation into an international resort destination offering multiple parks and hotel accommodation. “The Water World project represents the newest phase of Ocean Park’s continuing transformation, which began in 2006 with the Master Redevelopment Plan and have already brought to Hong Kong the Applause Award,” Dr. Allan Zeman, Honorary Advisor of the Tai Shue Wan Steering Group says. Originally scheduled for 2017, the opening date for Water World has been postponed to late 2018.
