Japan: First Q-Ride Attraction Opens Today in Tokyo
The world’s first installation of a Q-Ride from Taiwanese manufacturer Brogent Technologies opens today at DiverCity shopping mall, located on the island of Odaiba in Tokyo’s metropolitan area. The system, which is designed to offer a motion-based VR experience, was presented for the first time as a demo version during last year’s IAAPA Expo in Orlando (cf. Technology News in EAP, 1/18).
The 6-DOF motion platform measures around seven meters in diameter and features twelve seats (four on each side). Guests are equipped with a mixed reality headset (from Acer) to immerse themselves in a 360-degree film in 4K resolution. For the Q-Ride in Tokyo, which is operated by Brogent Group, a VR short film was produced featuring Japan’s popular “Ghost in the Shell” manga series. Special effects such as wind, sound and scent complete the experience for visitors. (eap)
