Las Vegas / USA: Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Cowabunga Bay Waterpark
Yesterday saw the groundbreaking ceremony for one of the two new waterparks currently being built in Las Vegas. The waterpark planned to be opened in Henderson (cp. EAP 2/2012) is now called Cowabunga Bay Waterpark Las Vegas. The 23 million US Dollar (around 17.5 million Euros) park is scheduled to open early summer 2013 and will feature over 30 attractions. An around 3,000 square meter large wave pool will be located in the centre of the park; a lazy river, a water play structure with a water bucket, a children’s play area, a groundbreaking funnel slide as well as further waterslide complexes with many attractions will also be part of Cowabunga Bay Waterpark. The design of the park will be inspired by the surf and beach scene of the 1960s. According to Las Vegas Sun, Shane Huisch, general manager of Cowabunga Bay Waterpark in Draper, Utah, thinks that two waterparks could be sustained in a city like Las Vegas. This statement refers to the second waterpark which is currently being built in Las Vegas, at the other end of the city. Wet’n’Wild Las Vegas is due to open in late May 2013 and majority-owned by the Australian-based Village Roadshow Ltd. More about these two new waterparks can be found in one of our next magazine issues. (eap)
