Malaysia: “The Gravityz“ – New High Altitude Adventure Open at Komtar Tower in Georgetown-Penang

This month, the 65-storey Komtar Tower skyscraper in the Malaysian city of Georgetown-Penang has opened “The Gravityz”: a new high-altitude adventure appealing to daring thrill-seekers. On a height of some 238 meters, participants balance along an outdoor trail around the façade of the building, on which they have to overcome a total of six obstacles.

Permanently accompanied by two safety instructors and secured with special safety equipment (supplied by Swiss manufacturer Kanopeo), participants first walk along a “confidence path” with their back to the window façade in order to get a feeling for the height and the coming obstacles. Following this first section, they pass the “High Bench” in the shape of tree stumps on which they can sit down and enjoy a spectacular view of the city. The third element is the “Great Bridge”, which – detached of the fixed circulation path – already requires more boldness. It is connected with the obstacles “X-Point” and “Z-Wire”, the latter of which is a “Flying Fox” zip line, the highlight of the entire aerial course. The journey all around the tower ends with “G-Rocky” when participants turn their face towards the building’s windows and lay back to hang over the chasm, held by the safety harness.

Kuala Lumpur-based AGC Outdoor Sports (a branch of The Gravityz) has developed the concept design (including branding, obstacles and engineering) for the 800,000 Euro (one million US-Dollar) project. The company anticipates some 20,000 visits by the end of this year; the total experience lasts about one hour. Participants under 18 years old must be accompanied by a paying adult, the height requirement is one meter. Tickets can be purchased at a price starting at approx. 18 Euros (90 RMB). (eap)
