Modernization of Mona Mare Leisure Pool is Progressing

(eap) The final spurt is being heralded on the construction site of the Mona Mare sports and leisure pool in Monheim am Rhein, Germany. Not long until guests can plunge into the waves, race down the new slides or sunbathe in the new outdoor area. The opening of the sports and teaching pool with diving platform and new climbing wall is planned for late summer after the North Rhine-Westphalian summer vacations. The leisure swimming area with a 35-metre-long wave pool, an outdoor saltwater pool measuring more than 200 square meters, a sunbathing deck, three large slides from Watergames & More and a children’s area with a spray park and slides will then follow in autumn.

In summer 2020, the city council decided to renovate and expand the all-weather pool, which was built in 1998. Only the pools and the sauna area, which was renovated in 2017/2018, remain from the old swimming pool. The rest of the area was newly created and is intended to be visually reminiscent of the curved and round shape of Rhine pebbles. The architectural firm Krieger Architekten, the engineering firm DTF Ingenieure and the project management company pbp are responsible for the modernization. A total of around 29 million euros is being invested in the conversion and expansion.

The new Mona Mare leisure pool is intended to offer added value to families with children and young people in particular. In addition, the entire facility will be designed to be as barrier-free as possible. ■
