Müritzeum: The House of 1,000 Lakes
In early August the “Haus der 1.000 Seen” (house of 1,000 lakes) opened in Waren in the Mecklenburg Lake Plateau region. At the heart of the house is one of the largest aquariums for native freshwater fish in Germany – a tank that extends over two storeys, with a capacity for 100,000 litres of waters and the largest plexiglass viewing window ever fabricated in Europe. The giant tank is home to a school of 600 whitefish, and regional fauna and flora among other things. (eap)
