Netherlands: Toverland Has Many Plans
For several years now, attractions in the “Wunderwald” area (formerly “Magic Forest”) of Toverland have been gradually renewed. In the past months, the popular water ride “Expedition Zork” was overworked very thoroughly and is hardly recognizable after a gigantic upgrade. Also, in the outdoor area, the overall experience was reattracted and furthermore enriched with “Maximus’ Wunderball” as a tangential new play experience. Jean Gelissen Jr., Managing Director of Toverland, already stated in advance: “The quality standard of Toverland is getting higher and higher and we think it is very important that our elder themed areas are also included.” This also closes the gap to the most recently opened areas “Port Laguna” and “Avalon”. More about the new Expedition Zork in our upcoming EAP magazine issue.
And while visitors to Toverland can book in for overnight stays again – and still –this summer at the “Pop-Up Summer Camp”, there are initial thoughts of expanding overnight capacity and building a resort on the site by 2024. To this end, a permit application has been submitted to the municipality, requesting, among other things, permanent overnight accommodation for Toverland. The application for such a vacation resort currently includes approval for 60 permanent accommodations, 100 tents and 40 RV pitches. Whether and how these framework conditions will then be implemented in concrete terms will emerge in the course of the procedure.
What is however already certain, is Toverland’s major new winter concept: For the first time, all six themed areas are to be open this winter. The new winter concept is to be called “Feelings”. “Winter Feelings is the way to present Toverland as a magical getaway for the whole family also in winter,” says Entertainment Manager Luke Verhoeven. The entrance area of “Port Laguna” will be the heart of the winter ceremony. The harbor town will also come to life in winter, transforming into a sea of lights at the evening – during a show featuring numerous well-known Toverland characters. With a curling track, giant slide and a 400 square meter ice rink – Christmas tree and alpine style gastronomy will of course not be missing. Each themed area gets its winter extras – so there is a new version of the fountain show “Katara” in the “Magic Vallei”, in “Avalon” the Celtic midwinter festival is celebrated, to which wizard Merlin invites, and in the themed area “Ithaka” marshmallows can be roasted near the cozily illuminated wooden roller coaster “Troy”, for example... The whole park invites guests to all these romantic winter specials from November 26 to January 15, 2023. (eap)
