New Brewery Heritage & Social History Experience to Open in Burton-upon-Trent
(eap) Burton-upon-Trent in Staffordshire (UK) is known as a brewing town par excellence. Now the town on the Trent is to be given a new visitor attraction with the Brewery Heritage & Social History Experience, which will showcase its key role in the history of brewing. Using a mix of technological, narrative and interactive elements, the experience aims to showcase the art and science of brewing, Burton’s historic role as the world’s leading beer production centre and the social fabric that has characterised the city.
East Staffordshire Borough Council has selected design and construction firm Sarner International to undertake the initial stages of the visitor attraction design. Sarner is working closely with partners Franklin Ellis, Everards and its client to refine the architectural and spatial design for the historic Bass House, the site of the new attraction. The aim is to create an experience that will elevate Burton-upon-Trent’s brewing heritage on a global stage. It also aims to create the UK’s first “Brewing Enterprise Centre”, a hub to support aspiring brewers and promote the future of the industry.
“This experience extends beyond brewing, capturing the human stories and community spirit behind Burton’s legacy, showcasing narratives of ordinary people, historical figures, and international influences to humanise both the brewing industry and the town’s social history,” explains Bradley Wynne, Sarner’s Creative Director. “Our goal is to create an immersive, transformative experience that celebrates Burton’s past and showcases its standing as a global brewing hub.”
Cllr Rob Hawkins, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Development, says: “With each week, my excitement for this project grows as I can see the potential of the reimagined Brewery Centre as a true destination where people can not only engage with brewing from a historic perspective but also learn about the future of brewing and how modern technology is being used within the industry.” ■
