New Plans for CentrO Park Oberhausen / Germany
After the Merlin Entertainments Group acquired CentrOPark in the spring of the last year (we reported in EAP issue 3/2011), there were no news about an operation or investment strategy for the theme park directly located next to Germany’s largest shopping and entertainment center in Oberhausen. Aquapark Oberhausen (cf. EAP 2/2010), a well frequented adventure swimming pool facility and a SeaLife Center operated by Merlin as well are situated in the direct neighborhood to the park area. With construction works starting in the summer of 2012, the CentrO Park site is now said to be converted to Ocean Adventure Park. Merlin plans to invest over 15 million Euros in this completely new park including three new great attractions for the whole family. “We are sure that local residents and visitors will be likewise enthusiastic about this great project,” explains Sabrina de Carvalho, Business Head of Midway Germany at Merlin. First attractions to be revealed to the public are the theme area “Antarctica” with penguin world and flume ride. Furthermore it’s certain now that a new, 3,000 square meter large Legoland Discovery Center (LDC) will be built in Oberhausen in the CentrO area (cf. EAP 2/2012). The new LDC will replace the one currently operating in Duisburg. Both new attractions, Ocean Adventure Park and LDC are scheduled to open in spring 2013. (eap)
