New Shows, Gastronomy & MICE Capacity at Puy du Fou España
Puy du Fou España, which opened its gates in Toledo in 2021 for the very first time (read our article in EAP 3/2021), has already sold over 400,000 tickets ahead of its official season launch earlier this month – a great sign for the targeted development of visitor numbers in the coming months, which almost approached the one million guest mark last season and are expected to exceed it this year. In order to reach the self-imposed target of 1.1 million visitors, who will also have the opportunity to visit the show theme park near Madrid in the colder months (until the end of the season in January 2024), investments amounting to some 17 million euros were made in various novelties.
Since the start of the season on 1 April, “El Misterio de Sorbaces” is a new show dedicated to the Visigothic sovereignty under King Rekkared on the Iberian Peninsula and tells the story of a secret wedding celebration between a Roman girl and a Gothic prince. Artistic horsemanship, dance choreographies and special effects make sure to impress the audience, who can take their seats on a covered grandstand with a capacity for up to 3,000 persons to enjoy the open-air performance. Also new is the immersive outdoor production “De Tal Palo”, where guests walk through several amphitheatres in which the protagonists share their memories of significant events in Spanish history, so that the experiences of some 80 generations are not forgotten...
From May, visitors will also be able to dine in the new restaurant “El Bodegón del Capitán”, which is historically set in the Middle Ages (in the cultural heyday of the “Siglo de Oro”) and tells the story of Captain Don Juan Fernández de Herrera, who returns to his Spanish homeland as a wounded veteran after his battles in Flanders and has opened a restaurant there where he tells others about his heroic stories. Guests can visit the show restaurant for lunch or dinner and enjoy regional delicacies.
The leisure destination’s MICE facilities, which were taken up by more than 250 companies last year, are also in good demand. In order to be able to continue to offer sufficient capacity for (business) events, the new “Pabellón de Lepanto” hall with an area of up to 600 square metres is now expanding the MICE facilities. Up to 500 people can hold meetings in this new space. Puy du Fou offers its own supporting programme for congresses and events, which includes “Master Talks with historical personalities” – these are based on the approach of understanding the present through an examination of historical events.
