Ninth LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Planned for USA
Following the opening of the LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Istanbul in Turkey this past July (cf. EAP, issue 4/2015), Merlin Entertainments recently announced its plans for the construction of the 17th Discovery Center globally and at the same time ninth indoor family center in the USA. Specially designed for families with children aged three to ten years, the new attraction will be located at PREIT’s Plymouth Meeting Mall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. PREIT is focused on the ownership and management of retail shopping malls in the eastern United States. The construction works for the 33,000 square foot (about 3,000 square meter) center, which will be owned and operated by Merlin Entertainments, will start next summer.
Featuring LEGO play areas, master classes from the LEGO Master Model Builder, party rooms, a 4-D cinema and a MINILAND area, the Discovery Center is scheduled to open in spring 2017. “The LEGOLAND Discovery Centers have been a huge success across the globe, particularly as an opportunity for adults and children to spend fun, quality time together. Plymouth Meeting Mall is the ideal location for the attraction as the mall is already a favored destination for Pennsylvania families and tourists from the region,” John Jakobsen, Chief New Openings Officer, Merlin Entertainments, says.
