So now it’s “official”: The manufacturer of the ride that is planned for the new world of motorsports, the Erlebniswelt Nürburgring, is S&S Power, which asserted itself successfully in a global public call for tenders. “S&S Power is one of the world’s leading companies in the area of pneumatic rollercoasters and has a great deal of experience,” says Dr Walter Kafitz, CEO of Nürburgring GmbH. “The production of individual components (incl. carriages, wheels, steel) underlies the German TÜV standard, the German industrial norm (DIN) and the European norm (EN), and is almost entirely undertaken at plants in Germany in Europe,” he said further. The Launch coaster in spe will be able to accelerate from 0 to 217 km/h in a mere 2.5 seconds – that’s not only “faster than a speeding bullet”, but at this speed even leaves a Formula 1 racing car in the dust. Those who want to brave this unique experience some critics have also referred to as “physical insanity” can do so come 2009 at the Nürburgring. (eap)
