Papenburg: Start of building for two new Disney Cruise Line ships

At the beginning of March work began on two new Disney cruise liners at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg. The two ocean liners should be completed in 2011 and 2012.
“When we built up our business in 1998, we recognised straightaway that there was a need for cruises that were specially tailored to families,” says Karl Holz, President of Disney Cruise Line and New Vacation Operations. All Disney cruise ships are kept in the Art-Déco style of the 30’s. According to reports the ships will also be appropriately furnished with classic chimneys and portholes. The design of the ships is kept in the colours of Mickey Mouse – black, white, red, and yellow. Each of the cruisers will have 1,250 luxuriously furnished cabins. Similarly to the “Disney Magic” and the “Disney Wonder” the new ships will be completely orientated towards the needs of families. 340 metres long, the first ship which is undertaken at the shipyard is just five metres shorter than the famous “Queen Mary 2”.
