PortAventura Launches New Queue Line Management Projects
(eap) PortAventura World, the theme park resort located near Tarragona (Spain), where the new “Uncharted” dark ride roller coaster (Intamin, in cooperation with Sally) celebrated its grand opening only a few days ago, now dedicates itself to improving the visitor experience in queue line areas and has launched a new project dubbed “InQ”. The first attraction where the concept, which is geared towards digital (community) short games, is currently being tested is at the popular “Furius Baco” Intamin wing coaster. On several screens placed along the waiting area, guests can play the painting and quiz game “Pictionary” together. To participate, a corresponding QR code must be scanned with a smartphone. This new entertainment offer in the waiting zone area of Furius Baco is initially running in a test phase, but further digital gaming experiences in queuing areas at other attractions are planned to follow.
At the “Hurakan Condor” freefall tower (Intamin), PortAventura has introduced a virtual waiting system for guests in the course of another pilot test project, which can also be used via QR code scan. As soon as it is the waiting visitor’s turn, the guest receives a message on his or her smartphone and can ride the attraction. During the “saved” time, guests are expected to make greater use of the park’s store and gastronomy offerings. Initially, PortAventura wants to collect enough data to evaluate and optimize the “InQ” and Virtual Lane systems and eventually implement them at other locations in the park. ■
