Puy du Fou Spain Presents New Show: “El Tambor de la Libertad”

(eap) Opened in Toledo in 2021, the Puy du Fou historic show theme park – the first international spin-off of the eponymous park in France – will present a new outdoor show when it enters this year’s season on March 8, which will be a permanent addition to its existing show program (read all about Puy du Fou España in EAP 3/2021).

“El Tambor de la Libertad” (The Drum of Freedom) will transport the audience back to the 19th century, specifically to the time of the Napoleonic Wars. The plot tells of the courageous resistance of the inhabitants of Toledo against the French troops. Out of the silence comes the sound of drums beating, which becomes ever louder as a symbol of hope and defiance. The protagonists of the show, Antonio and Valle, stand for the indomitable spirit of the people of Toledo – they fight for freedom and the honor of all those who can no longer face the battle themselves. The set of the new show extends over two levels. There will be acrobatics and traditional dances and, in keeping with the theme of the Napoleonic Wars, black powder effects. A soundtrack composed by Goya Prize winner Fernando Velázquez will accompany the performance, which has a capacity of 3,000 spectators.

The start of the season at Puy du Fou España and the premiere of the new show coincide with the first “Feria del Libro Histórico” – a kind of “trade fair”, which is organized by Puy du Fou in cooperation with the Escritores con la Historia association and the Ferrer-Dalmau Art and History Foundation on the park grounds on the first two weekends in March. It focuses on historical novels and stories. Book lovers can meet authors and publishers and take part in an accompanying program.
