Robots Act as Puppeteers in Augsburg’s Town Hall

(eap) Two robots from Augsburg (Germany)-based automation company KUKA have recently moved into Augsburg City Hall as puppeteers. Until the end of January 2024, visitors can watch the robots controlling the from the Augsburger Puppenkiste’s (puppet show) well-known character “Kasperle” and the dragon “Famulus”. The occasion for this special presentation is the joint 200th anniversary of the globally active company Kuka, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, and the Augsburger Puppenkiste, which has been showing puppet theatre plays for 75 years now.

“It was a particular pleasure to help design this attraction. Famulus was specially designed for his adventures in Augsburg. As with all our puppets, genuine craftsmanship and more than 50 hours of work have been spent on him,” says Hans Kautzmann, professional puppeteer and part of the Augsburger Puppenkiste for around 33 years. “Combining this tradition with robot technology was very exciting and I am delighted to be able to share the result with the public now.” ■
