Roller Coaster “Fire In The Hole” at Silver Dollar City Celebrates Its Farewell this Season
The U.S. theme park Silver Dollar City in Branson/MO, part of the Herschend Family Entertainment group, has announced that its indoor roller coaster “Fire In The Hole” will be in operation for the last time this season, which begins March 11. The family-friendly attraction, which opened in 1972, has since been experienced by more than 25 million people, the company said. To this day, it enjoys great popularity and a kind of cult status among roller coaster fans.
”Fire in the hole is a true classic from years past – a unique ride that’s a must-ride every park visit”, says Duane Marden, founder of the online Roller Coaster Data Base. The ride is themed in a western style and based on the real mining town “Marmaros”, which was located near Marvel Cave. The trains are designed as fire-brigade themed trains – according to the storyline, the passengers’ goal is to extinguish a fire without getting caught in the flames themselves. The train goes through several twists and turns as well as three drops.
It has not yet been announced which attraction will take the place of the coaster, but visitors can expect a new attraction that is at least as exciting and continues the legacy of the indoor roller coaster. In addition, the park already announced last year that it is investing 30 million US dollar in infrastructure improvements to enhance the guest experience. (eap)
