Sandbox VR Plans Expansion in Germany

Sandbox VR Plans Expansion in Germany

(eap) Sandbox VR, headquartered in San Francisco (California), recently opened its 50th virtual reality (VR) gaming location worldwide on Australia’s Gold Coast. And there are further expansion plans also in Germany: in addition to the existing locations in Wiesbaden and Alsfeld – which are part of NextLevel Erlebnisse – further franchise locations in Berlin (East Side Mall), Hamburg (Überseeboulevard), Mannheim and Oberhausen (near the CentrO) are soon to follow. And many more locations are already being planned – suitable sites are currently being identified in the German cities of Brandenburg, Bremen, Dresden, Hanover, Kiel, Leipzig, Lübeck and Rostock, among others.

At Sandbox VR, groups of up to six people can immerse themselves in VR worlds in one room. Players are equipped with a VR headset and motion capture technology so that they can move freely around the room. Thanks to body tracking the VR content is being synchronized fitting to the players movements and actions. There are currently eight different VR games to choose from, which can be played exclusively at the Sandbox VR locations. Persons who are at least 1.2 meters (48 inches) tall are allowed to take part in the experience. Minors may play in the presence of a parent or guardian. Guests should plan about one hour for a round, including preparation and follow-up, of which around half an hour is actual playing time. ■
