Singapore: Sentosa’s Maritime Experiential Museum Reopens with Overhauled Visitor Experiences

As part of Singapore’s Resorts World Sentosa, the Maritime Experiential Museum has seen an extensive overhaul and reconceptualization during the past nine months – today, the attraction reopens featuring 15 unique galleries including five brand new zones, all dedicated to the exploration of the historic Maritime Silk Route. The revamped museum will engage the senses of guests through a combination of state-of-the-art visual projections, multimedia shows, interactive hands-on exhibits and olfactory experiences, amongst others.

In the “briefing room”, guests will be greeted by the holographic likenesses of four well-known historic seafarers, including Marco Polo, the merchant from old Venice. Then, guests enter the “Learning to Navigate” chamber, an all-new interactive gallery in which guests learn more about the art of navigation and can try their hand at several interactive stations. It follows the “Pirate Encounter”, locating guests onboard a burning ship invaded by pirates. This gallery showcases multi-level decks and uses projection technology for an action-packed experience.

In the “Maritime Coin History” area, visitors can discover the myriad of currencies used on the Maritime Silk Route and the intriguing process of coin-making such as the differences between Chinese and European coin production. A walk through the four bustling ports of Quanzhou, Oman, Indian city Calicut and the Malaysian city of Malacca awaits visitors in the “Ports of Call” zone. Finally, the “Singapore Maritime Legacy” gallery showcases how Singapore came to be the thriving port metropolis that it is today and how its strategic location on the Maritime Silk Road catapulted its emergence in trade and economy.
