Studio City Macau Indoor-Waterpark Opens Today

The Chinese special administrative region of Macau has been attracting tourists to the city for many years. For a long time, this was thanks to the numerous casinos and the associated legal gambling. In recent years, however, Macau’s tourist focus is also shifting more and more to attractive leisure and wellness offerings. In 2016, Studio City Macau, an impressive entertainment complex, was opened (which we reported on in EAP 2/2016). Five years later, Studio City was expanded to include an outdoor water park. With the indoor water park opening on the building’s roof today, Studio City is set to offer one of Asia’s largest water parks and become an even bigger visitor magnet to the city.

In both the existing outdoor and the new indoor areas, WhiteWater was responsible for the construction of the water slides and play structures. The design of the new building, which was built on the existing complex of the first Studio City phase, was designed by the internationally renowned firm Zaha Hadid Architects. Like this, the new building, costing around USD 1.3 billion (EUR 1.2 billion), is directly eye-catching. Also, WhiteWater added metallic finishes to the new water slides, which are visible on the outside to make them fit into the geometric, futuristic design of the building.

A colorful mix of exciting and family-friendly water slides and attractions awaits guests in Macau. These include China’s first “Parallel Pursuit” mat slide, the “Master Blaster” ride, the “Tailspin” raft slide and the “Flatline Loop” freefall slide. In addition, the Scottish company Murphys Waves has supplied a surf simulator with their “Double Surf Air” system. Guests can look forward to these and many other attractions in the new water park as of today. (eap)
